So a little different from the school's I've visited but when in Rome... Good training though and good training partners. I just wish the weather was better so I could have gone more often.
When the best MMA fighters in the world come to this academy, on a weekly basis, you know you've stumbled onto greatness !!!
When children learn, laugh and hug their Coaches, like family, you know this is an Academy for everyone !!!
My husband and daughter both attend and they love it! The staff is fantastic and the classes are taught by great instructors.
I want to start the review by saying that I have never trained at RABJJ, but I do not intend to in the future. I'm giving the review based on a interaction with RABJJ staff and organization. So I come to the area often from out of town because of family and business that I have in the area. I'm currently in town for the holidays and for a business meeting in Philadelphia. I'm looking for a place to train so I figured I would try RABJJ seeing as it is the closest academy in relation to where I am staying. So I called the academy one time and left a message with no reply for many hours. Finally I receive a call back, then get hung up on. I call back three times with no reply. Finally about a half an hour later I get a phone call from RABJJ. The woman on the phone gets my information and starts telling me about the classes they offer. She informs me that there is a few classes available before I leave the area and a Saturday open mat. She informs me that the Saturday open mat is only for two stripe white belts and above, and because I am only one stripe it is policy that I can not attend. I'm not super thrilled with that policy, but I have been to other schools that have similar policies. Here's where it gets strange. I ask her if RABJJ offers any Muay Thai, kickboxing, or other striking art classes. She tells me they do but I have to be a two stripe white belt to train in those classes. You have to be a two stripe white belt in BJJ to train in KICKBOXING! I don't know who came up with that policy, but I can tell right there that I didn't want to train at this school. I even informed the woman I was talking to that I hold a black belt in taekwondo and kyokushin karate, and she still said it was policy to not allow me to train the kickboxing classes. So essentially, you have to have a two stripe white belt in a grappling art to train in a striking art that has no relation to BJJ. I would stay away from this place. With policies like that I don't have high hopes for their other policies, and as someone who has trained martial arts for about 10 years I can not recommend this school.
One of best academy in southern New Jersey. The owner is a former UFC fighter also a BJJ black belt. Everyone polite, friendly. Call in advance to make a appointment to find out what required. If your new to BJJ, they have many instructors there to help you.
Couple of notes if you are a visitor, the school requires that you wear their school gi's so call in advance and see if you can borrow one. Lucky I was able to use my own pants because the loaner pants were huge. Also, bring an extra t-shirt or rashguard because they require you to wear something under.
